Alice Peck Programs

  • Alice Peck continues to offer AM/PM special education preschool programming for our youngest learners. Students who are new to the program are typically offered a spot in our AM preschool classrooms. Students who are returning for a second or third year of preschool are typically offered a spot in our PM preschool program. “BER” babies, or students who will attend preschool for a third year, will remain in the Pre K 3 Program until they enter their third year of preschool. During the third year of preschool, they will join our Pre K 4 Program. 

     

    Alice Peck is committed to offering students intentional play activities throughout the day in alignment with the Connecticut Early Learning and Developmental Standards (ELDS). Play activities are designed to assist children with literacy, math, science, social studies, social and emotional skills and executive functioning.


  • Alice Peck offers a full day of preschool to students who are eligible. Students born on or before September 1, 2026 are eligible for a full day of preschool. Students born on or after September 2, 2026 will remain in the half day 3”s program for another school year. Those “BER” babies will be offered a third year of preschool, with the final year of preschool being full time. 

     

    The Pre K 4 Program runs Monday through Friday from 9-3:30. We offer integration with play partners from the HELP program. Two of our 4’s classrooms are 50/50 preschool rooms with an equal ratio of students with IEPs and students who are play partners. Additionally, we offer integration with our sister program, HELP (Hamden Early Learning Program), throughout the day. Students will have time with play partners during recess, PE, art, & music. Play partners will also be integrated into play activities within the special education classroom.

  • If families are concerned about their child’s development, they may refer their child for a special education evaluation to determine if their child is eligible for special education. Referrals are ongoing and are available to students who are 3 to 5 years of age or any child who has not yet begun kindergarten. 

     

    To initiate a referral for special education services, please call the main office at 203-407-2010 or send an email to Betty Murray (bmurray@hamden.org) or Amy Shaver (ashaver@hamden.org). 

     

    Referrals are processed during the school year. The school year is determined by the Board of Education and is posted on the district website. Referrals cannot be processed over the summer.
